"This is what it sounds like when Millionars cry," yea I am talking about Metallica, the albino Vanilla Ice - aka Eminem and the rest of the hardons.
Here is the REAL DEAL. Metallica and other bands contention that Napster is promoting the stealing of their hard-earned work and they are loosing money is a crock. The record companies are the ones who are to blame. These "Rock Stars" and struggling musicians don't make diddly compared to the record companies. Do these company executives really need 5 Million dollar pay checks? Who is paying those salaries??? Well let me tell ya, it's all the music lovers shelling out $20 bones for a new CD. It's CRAZY! And the bands make little of the profits and only really make huge money on huge sales in Q.
The solution for these crybaby musicians is for the record labels to sell CD's cheaper and not horde all the profits. The average pay for the majority of kids is less then or around $10 an hour. So, they have to work at least 2 hours, afer taxes, to buy one CD. If they buy 2 CD's a week that's almost half the monthly payment of a car! If they lowered the CD's to $10 each sales would SKY ROCKET. For $10 you'd almost buy any CD just to check it out and have all the lyrics etc. But give me a break $20 for a new CD is criminal, hence NAPSTER. And so long as things are the way they are I will be enjoying the freedom of Napi and Nut.
The band The Grateful Dead is a perfect example of how true musicians should work. They allowed and PROMOTED the live taping of ALL their shows. They even set aside a place at every show where you could set up your recording devices and could get the best recording possible. It created droves of "collectors" of their live concerts and promoted their live shows. They would sell out 10 shows in a row in the Bay Area and made millions in just live performances.
I don't think music is all about money but it can be made in great amounts without pinching the fans. That's what Metallica is missing the point of.
The only reason that Napster is being gone after is because the people that are behind the music industry are the fat cats like Time-Warner etc. These guys control so much of what is seen, heard, and how much we all pay it's scary. They lobby million and millions to get exactly what they are after. If you want to fight the power, fight them.
So, if you want "a way" of trading music FREE - NAPSTER is the best. You can buy a bong in the head shop but you don't have to smoke pot to know that it's available if you want it. We all know what tobacco pipes are used for.
By the way, I don't like Pot, Drugs, the Grateful Dead or dirty hippies I am just making a point. And down with the PMRC and the WTO.
Long live Napster ---- "Smitty"
