| setsail's Full Review: Micron Millenia Maximum Performance |
After several years of buying "disposable" computers, my husband and I finally wised up, and for Christmas last year we bought a Micron Millenia Max. We researched the big 3-Dell, Gateway and Micron- and had a hard time deciding which one we liked best. What finally sold us on Micron were two big points:
1. The warranty. Micron's basic warranty is 5/3/1 (5 years parts, 3 years labor, one year on-site). This stands head and shoulders above what even Dell and Gateway provide. For almost the same exact cost from website to website, we felt that warranty was a big deciding point.
2. After doing research on the internet, sites such as PC Magazine (the model we purchased was the Editor's Choice for 1999) and consumeraffairs.com had nothing but praise for Micron (though I can't say I found the same for the cow!)
We also noted that Micron was the only one selling the 733 mHz chip at the time we wanted to order.
Not everything went smoothly- we ordered and paid for our machine, but they had not notified us that they were having problems getting the chips, so there was a two week delay in shipment. After we questioned why we were left in the dark (the day our computer was supposed to have shipped came and went with no shipment), the rep at Micron upgraded our delivery to Next Day Air, at no charge, plus they added a year of their online program MicronU ($100 value).
We found that the customer service dept was outstanding- we never had a long wait to talk to someone when we were waiting for the chipsets to come in (as a matter of fact, I ended up talking to the same rep twice in 3 days, and after that she called me every other day to update the status of our order). Even before purchase, the reps took the time to talk to us when we had questions about chipsets, and any other component we could think of, whereas when we called a competitor, the rep had to transfer us to tech support to be able to get the answer (question was- which chipset was going to be used with which motherboard, and which ones are recommended by Intel). That the sales reps could give us this info showed that they had done their homework, so we felt that when we were ordering, the rep would actually have an idea of what to recommend, instead of just following a script in front of them.
We found dealing with Micron to be great, and we know where we are buying our next computer (hmmm, I think I need a laptop...)
