8500 Breakdown/Is lower line way to go?
Mar 07 '00
So this past December,I go to the Circut City and pick out the most expensive and high end computer that was available. I did not spare any expense. The 8500 HP Pavilion was what I purchased.
First, a computer of this caliber was not in the stores inventory, so a two week wait was my sacrifice to get the best computer. I waited.
This thing has never worked correctly. I have a kernal error. That's bad. What's worse is how many downloads and tricks HP has made me do to attempt "a fix". These guys do not want to take these pcs back.
Do you know how long I've been on the telephone waiting for the helpdesk to try another "fix"??? Forever.
Once HP finally said I had a major unfixable kernel error and that they would be sending the return packaging(so they could take the pc back and fix it), they accidentally did not send the packaging. The order was mishandled by an employee and I lost another two weeks.
So as I write this epinion tonight, I anxiously await HP to come get my computer. March. March!!! Help me... The all mighty 8500, all $3000 worth(That's right, $3000- just on the "loaded harddrive")
WHAT"S MY POINT- if I would have bought a lower end model, I could probably have walked my computer down to the store and have a new, working pc in my hands now. I am sure the phone support is not as helpful with the newer models. Newer models have newer problems that take longer to fix. The pcs that are mass produced usually have identifyable problems, unlike mine.
So think twice before you go venture with the cutting edge technology. Maybe saving a buck in this case could save you a lot of headache.!?
