When F-Zero was released, it got a lot of griping for it's simplistic graphics. I mentioned it to my friend, and I think his exact words were "Who cares? All the developer cared about was it's frame rate". Blasphemy. Let's not forget that this game was made by Shigeru Miyamoto, the genius behind Donkey Kong, Mario, Link, and every other successful video game character. But what got me, was the part about the frame rate. When Shigeru set out to make F-Zero X, the thing he was most concerned about was CONTROL. And let me tell you, he achieved perfection.
F-Zero X has to be my favorite racing game on the N64. Sure the backgrounds are practically non-existant, and the extra eye-candy. . . well, isn't there, but when it comes down to it, there's nothing like skidding around a tight corner at about a billion miles per hour, with a pack of fifteen cars in front of you, and fifteen behind you. Now, well over a year after I bought it, my brother and I still pass it back and forth, trying to beat each others best times. Sure, the music sounds like a bad 80's "Poison" song (like there was a good "Poison" song), but don't despair: just turn down the volume, and put on your favorite CD, and you wont be disappointed.
