| mistrtonee's Full Review: Creative Sound Blaster AWE64 Value |
The Creative Labs Sound Blaster AWE 64 Value package was brand new way back when I bought parts and pieced together my first system back in 1997. Since then I have undergone an upgrade which involved scrapping most of the obsolete hardware which was mid-late 90's technology and replace it with newer pieces that perform to my standards. The only three original pieces that were in that original system and are still in my current machine are the monitor, the modem, and the AWE 64 sound card.
Despite the age of the AWE 64 technology, it provided tremendous performance when released and still provides reasonable performance by today's standards. Playing MP3s using the AWE 64 and my Altec Lansing speakers provides an enjoyable and high quality listening experience. Something to realize is that AWE 64's can now be picked up for a mere fraction of their original cost due to the age of the product.
I would recommend this product to anyone who might be interested in finding a great deal for a basic sound card that provides reasonably high quality audio output which is still more than acceptable by today's standards. Of course, you won't get the fancy frills of 128-bit audio and rca outputs to 4 channels, but for a standard sound card to hook to a set of stereo speakers, the AWE 64 is an excellent deal.
