I have to give a thumbs up for a great card
It was the first time I've ever installed a new graphics card in my HP Pavillion. I thought it was time to upgrade.
Shopping at a local computer store I looked at quite a few different cards including the voodoo and ATI cards. I couldn't beat the $150 price tag when compared to other cards. It beats out the other cards at the same price. I got it home and opened the box. I read through the installation manual and thought it could have been a little more in-depth but it got me where I needed to be. The previous card was built into the mother board and I had some complications working through that but Guillemot tech support was outstanding in helping me out. They even helped with a computer manufacturer question that would have cost me $25.
Once installed the card works great! I couldn't believe the change. I was able to run high end games like diakatana and quake on the full resolution and they all ran smoothly. I really noticed it in the cut-scene movies. The settings tab on my display was changed quite a bit which gave me much more control over the display. Being new to this I had a little trouble understanding some of the terminology and the on-line manual the card's CD gives you explains it all. The on-line manual also explains what each new control does to some extent. I thought it could use a little more. The card also comes with several demo's like diakatana, Thief 2, and others to try out your new card.
The card does have a big brother with a little more power behind it which gives better performance but they are both pretty much the same card. The big difference is the price.
The low price and great hardware is something to consider when buying a new card. It was very easy to install and comes in both AGP and PCI formats. If your a first timer or don't want spend a whole lot the 3D Prophet II MX is a great card.
