| harveypeters's Full Review: Gateway Select 800 Deluxe |
Let me tell you something, 133 Mhz computers really SUCK to tell you the truth, but since I have been saving for a long while for a PC (which wasnt' exactly the most pressing of concerns when you factor in mortages, bills, etc You know the basic grinds of daily Life) but oh what a treat or as the title states a Blessing from above!
Just to put it in to an analogy, my 133 Mhz "Junker" with 32 Megs of Ram could be likened to a sloth and this Bad Boy that I purchased would be more along the lines of DC Comics "The Flash"! To say there was a difference is a HUGE Understatement, that's for SURE!
Anyway, here is how I specced my machine out and after that I will give you the DL ( Down Low) on the System
GatewayTM Select
AMDTM AthlonTM Processors(800 Mhz - ZIPPY DA DOO!)
RAM - 256 Megs of SDRAM (Plenty for what I need to use it for, espicially with the T1 ethernet connection I have)/
Memory- 45 GB( 45,000 Megs of Memory - WHOA!)/
DVD for watching DVD's, CD-RW for Copying Important info such as Tax info, business presentations, occasinal wav and mp3 storage and music CD's, etc.../
Boston Acoustic Digital BA735 with 2 sub woofer speakers ( Great for listening to the latest jams and music of the moment or even Internet Radio)/
Typical Microsoft Suite of Applications (Excel, Word, etc...)/
Norton Anti-Virus ( Gotta Make sure I am ahead of the Virus Game, too much at stake not to prevent viruses espicially when running a business)
Voodoo 5 3D Acclerator Video Card (I gotta have my occasional Gaming Break, get in a little Unreal Tournament or Quake 3 Arena when your stressed Out!!)
So the the question is how this Bad Boy "Tool Time" Athlon Powerhouse runs?
An emphatic "Fantastic" is what you hear from me.
This system is Incredibly Fast in all aspects whether I am doing some 3D work on DreamWeaver or playing the latest Graphics Intensive 3D Blast-a-Thon. It performs way beyond my expectations and all the additional software I purhchased with this model has made it well worth the purchase espically Norton AntiVirus being a Prime example.
The Boston Acoustic speakers have great depth of bass and treble and really can put out more definition and overall sound quality then you think they could espicially if you saw the size of the speakers. They aren't all that big, but they Perform BIG.
Microsoft software is typically Microsoft quality which is Great for my needs and I use these often. The Voodoo 5 card is another "Goodie" I justified when I bought this system and really gives this Athlon some "ballz" and can really make the latest games look downright amazing.
The DVD player is welcomed and even better when you get a TV/PC port so you can watch DVDs on your TV using the PC (Now thats a FEATURE)
Getting to talking about Gateway, what can I say, Gateway is the real deal, their customer service was/is Impeccable and every time I had a question or needed confirmation of something about my PC, they had the answer and whenever I have run into a problem whether it's big or small they have helped me solve. I believe Gateway is a true pioneer and I wish the whole PC industry had the same high standards Gateway upholds.
Final Prognosis -
The system is beyond all my expectations, the whole Gateway team is #1 in my book and I don't have to put up with my 133 Mhz "Junker" no more(God Bless Gateway, LOL)
So if you are looking for a Great PC and want the Best place to purchase one, Choose Gateway as I can testify to, AMEN Gateway!
