I've been using The Bat! as my primary email client for many months now, and am extremely pleased by what it can do. Unlike some email programs The Bat! isn't free, but once you start using it the registration fee ($35 for a personal license) definitely seems worth it.
The Bat! has all the features that I was looking for in an email client, and more. It supports multiple email accounts, has a powerful filter system so you can sort your emails into different folders based, allows you to create and use templates to speed up the creation of repetitive emails, it allows you to check POP3 email accounts (and IMAP I believe,) it even supports PGP so you can encrypt your messages, it's also faster than many of the other programs I've tried. There is, of course, more than that but those are the features that come to mind right now.
How does The Bat! compare to other email clients? I've used many email clients searching for the best one (Outlook express, Pegasus, Foxmail, Kaufman Email warrior) and The Bat! came out on the top. It seems to combine all the best elements of all the others that I have tried. Even the interface is well set-up, and allows you to choose from a few different layouts to suit your needs and taste.
The Bat! has raised my expectations for email clients, and I doubt anything else will come along soon that would cause me to switch to another.
