Say "No" to CompUSA

I purchased a CompUSA brand laptop in September of '99. A few weeks after bringing it to school the screen began to develop black dots that floated throughout it. I brought it to the CompUSA here in Boston and was told that I would have to bring it to the CompUSA back in NJ where I bought it. I waited until Thanksgiving and brought it to the CompUSA where I purchased the laptop. I was then told I would have to send it out because they couldn't help me. I called and was shipped a box. I sent out my laptop with cables and an Ethernet card for the Internet inside the drive. I was charged $1000 for a new screen even though I purchased it with an obvious problem. They kept my PC until late January because they needed to have about five screens shipped in because every time they received one it would have a defect. Hmmm, like the first one they gave me and told me it was my fault?

I finally got my computer back and I went to hook up to the Internet and my Ethernet card was gone! I called them and they told me they would get back to me. A few days later my whole computer crashed! I called the woman (who was very sweet though) and explained it to her and had to send the computer out again! She talked to her boss and convinced him to get me an Ethernet card.

My computer is still out and a new circuit board is still being ordered, again. I have had the laptop out being fixed more than I have had it. I am so displeased with the company. I called to talk with a consumer executive and was always told that "he" was busy. When I called to see what happened to my laptop when it crashed I wasn't even aloud to talk to someone because I don't have access to a fax machine to fax a copy of my receipt! Each store sent me on a wild goose chase that ended up at the headquarters in Texas. They were no help because they charged me for something that was obviously there fault, gave me more damaged property, and stole my Ethernet card!

The printer I purchased did not work as well and they told me to send it to Canon and that they couldn't help me. I don't trust there own products as well as the ones that they sell for other companies. They give good brands a bad name. Please, if you are looking for a computer or computer products DO NOT go to CompUSA!

New info-I finally got my computer back and they did not send me my AC adapter back. After taking a trip to the store on a mission to buy another one so I can actually use my computer, they don't sell them! They have to get back to me to see if they can special order one. They have adapters for other brands, but not CompUSA. How can CompUSA not carry there own brand?!! I am just convinced that I will never be able to use this computer again!

Okay, so they tracked an adapter down and my computer was all set to work. I sat in my room on the Internet and was so happy that I could finally use my laptop in my room and not have to tretch across campus to the computer lab. I went to class and came back to do some work. I turned the computer on and the system crashed, AGAIN!!! I called the company and they gave me numbers to countless people who couldn't help. I was told to send the computer back for repair. All I want is a new laptop, NOT FROM COMPUSA! But I can't return it because it is past 14 days. Even though I have not even had the computer for that long because it has been sent out so many times!!!! HELP! Please do not get involved with this company!
