| jmm1021's Full Review: Dell Dimension XPS T700r |
After years of experiencing hard drive failures after two years in service, I finally broke down and bought the first true quality machine I have ever owned, the Dell Dimension XPS T800r. Oh, I have owned Compaq Presarios, IBM Aptivas and laptops from Epson, IBM and Compaq, but this new desktop system has the power for my database needs, the speed for my internet connections and the affordability for the home business user.
As a home office user for the past 15 years, the demands on home computing now far exceed what anyone ever imagined. Telecommuting from PA to MA every day requires a 24 hour link to the internet which means hard drives are active constantly. Any small business owner or any telecommuter with live Internet access at home will benefit from this high powered system.
The selection of any Dell product begins with the user choosing a base model. I chose the 800MHz speed for the improvement in data compilation as well as download processing. Next, the Dell experience asks you to select from a menu of peripheral or system choices including DVD or CD, CD-RW, zip drive, caches, printers, scanners, etc. When it was all done, I had built a system designed specifically for me including the 800 MHz Pentium III processor, 20GB hard drive, 30GB tape drive, DVD and CD-RW, HP DeskJet 952C. Then you select your payment method, I chose a lease to own option and found the Dell Finance group to be very easy to work with.
I have seen Dell systems in my corporate office and the Dell system I began using in 1996 is still running today. No longer will I buy an IBM Aptiva with its proprietary MWave communications card or Compaq Presario systems that offer two years of hard drive service before the system crashes.
Lastly, I use a number of peripherals on my new Dell Dimension XPS T800r including video feed, Brother multi-purpose fax/scanner, Visioneer scanner and Kodak digital camera... everything worked from the first effort to bring the whole system up. It is the first time that I have ever had a system completely accept all peripherals without a hiccup; and Dell Attune provides users with assistance in overcoming some complicated peripheral installation issues.
