You can upgrade later?Jan 28 '00 Write an essay on this topic. The old saying "I'll get this now and I can always upgrade later" is costing you more than you think. As the prices for everything that makes up the PC slowly goes down it no longer makes since to save the money and 'upgrade later". Everyone of us has had this thought and most went through on the wait until later part, but as many of us realized, that was a bad idea from the start when the upgrade time came. We go out and buy what we think we need and then within 6 months we are kicking ourselves over it. We now are on the lookout for a great deal to "upgrade" our new drive. We find an excellent deal on a bigger drive than we have in our unit now and we make the purchase. Taking the drive home you begin thinking of how much space you will have, you are the king upgrades. You open the case of your pc, then and only then do you realize you are out of places to stick it. We start thinking of creative mounting practices, you know the ones, I can put a screw through here and set the drive there(wonder if super glue would hold). Hopefully before you break out the drill, screws, and hammer you decide to replace a drive. This is the point that everything gets hairy. Do you replace the master drive, or the other new drive. Either way you have a paper weight when you are done. My advice is by that bigger drive from the start. You will fill it up and have to buy another at some point but at least you know you gave it the best shot you could at lasting longer. It may even last until you decide to build that next box. |
