| dragonmoney's Full Review: Alienware Area51:Aurora |
AlienWare allows you do design your dream machine. And although to get your dream machine you will have to pay a hefty price it is well worth it. After all this is every computer user's dream. They allow you to custom build your computer. Then they put it in a cool black box. My personal computer fantasy will end up costing me $6710.10. That is a lot of money by anyone's measurements. But then again this is all top of the line, everything included. The above price includes a 1Ghz processor, 4-point speaker system and subwofer, two 40 Gb hard drives, a 10x DVD player, a 12x CD-RW, 10-100 NIC, 56k v.90 internal modem, a LS-120 floppy replacement, and several other features.
While writing this review I am actually trying to figure out what computer I could actually buy. And you should know that I am a teenager and there for have practically no expenses other than things I want to buy for myself and the occasional special meal. Also remember that almost any talented teenager that can do good computer work can make around $10 an hour. So on with the calculations.
What every gamer wants, and AlienWare provides, is the top of the line processor. So the 1Ghz Athlon is a must. Next I will go to the RAM. Although they allow you to order up to 384 MB I will be reasonable and go with 256MB. That should be enough for almost anyone's needs.
Here comes the big one. The hard drive. Very very few people really need more than 30 Gb so that is what I will try. Put me down for one 30 GB hard drive. The next selection is the monitor. That is nonnegotiable I must get the 19" Viewsonic Black monitor. That part was easy, onto the hard part.
The video card will be the NeoGeo2 with 32 MB on board memory as opposed to 64. With the top of the line cooling system. KoolMaxxx will add another $46. Also we will downplay the DVD and get a 10x, but not a 16x DVD with hardware MPEG-2 Decoder. Of course a V.90 56K modem will be there and I will substitute an ordinary floppy for a LS-120 120Mb Super Disk drive.
I will choose to get a PlexWriter 12x/4x Write 32x Read CDR-W SCSI. That will make my CD burning nice and swift. But to cancel out that purchase I will get no controllers whatsoever. But a PCIEthernet NIC 10-100 is required to connect to my cable modem. I'll get the standard warranty and get the pre-installed game set, which adds $117. And the 2nd day air with insurance shipping. That includes the monitor.
So what is the grand total for the reasonable dream machine?
The total is $ 4921.60 . Oh my god!!! That's frightening. That costs way to much to count as a reasonable priced computer. Well I guess maybe Alien Ware is not for the faint at heart.
