Those of you that have read my reviews in the past, you know that I am a System Administrator at my company. Unfortunatly a lot of our computers are old. My job is to make them remain operational. Running the programs or even an operating system isnt important. We run a Citrix Application Server that will work on any platform. But thats not the point of my review.


I needed to inventory every computer on the network. There are over 100 computers on my netowkr, so I anticipated this project taking me some time to finish.And I mean everything. From the type of video card to the make of the bios.

So I was definatly looking for a program that would install quickly, perform a wide range of tests, and be accurate.



I tried many different products that are similar to CheckIt. Some of them were very nice actually. Some of them even had a few better features. But didnt hold anything to Checkit when it came to overall performance and information given.


The system requirments are not too bad for this product. They are as follows.

CheckIt 98: 10 MB
CheckIt NetOptimizer: 10 MB DISK
CheckIt for DOS: 2 MB DISK or run from floppy
FastMove!: 2.5 MB

This product runs every diagnostic test that you can think of. It will test the Hard drive, motherboard, memory, cpu. video, speakers, everything that is on your computer will be tested.

It will even test USB, InfraRed and PCMCIA technology. Another great feature is that it offers the option to backup critical Windows and system files upon a crash.

NetOptimizer is a great program for the IT Professional or the Modem user at home. It will test your modem and adjust the settings allowing you the fastest connection. It will do the same thing over a LAN, ISDN, any connection to the internet it will opptimize.

Fast Move, is another program that comes with Checkit98 but I honestly have never used that. It basically allows you to do easy file transfers, if it is as easy as the rest of these products are to use, it cannot be that bad.

Overall I highly recomend this program to everyone. These programs are designed to test and diagnose your hardware problems and using this program can help you catch a problem before it is too late.

The normal selling price for this is about 130. If you look hard enough you can find it for 89-109 at places like BEst Buy, CompUSA and other computer related stores.
