Lowest phone bill - best for the price

Written: Sep 29 '00 (Updated Dec 04 '00)
Pros:Pretty easy to set up and use, clear picture at 30 fps.
Cons:requires USB port and has only 6 feet cord

As the name indicates, when Intel came out with PC Camera (at that time they wer offering decent rebates also), I went out and bought one. I had some tough time convincing my long distance & overseas relatives buy one - now most of us are happy that we did buy the Intel PC Camera - mainly because our donation to the phone company has gone down significantly.

About the Intel PC Camera, it takes 30 frames per second and the picture is pretty clear - especially if both the parties have broadband. Requires USB port, came with Intel software which was easy to install and provides bigger picture frame than NetMeeting. Allows you to take decent snapshot and store as JPG and email the picture if you desire. Easy to focus, the color adjusts it self and renders pretty good still shots.

Last week end my spouse called her sister who is overseas and had a videoconference for 2 hours - that itself saved me the cost of the camera plus some more. The feed coming in from their side (56k modem) was little bit choppy but considering that we were communicating across 10,000 miles it was not bad at all - above all it was totally free.

Well if you have long distance relatives with whom you really would love to stay in touch, please go ahead buy one for yourself and buy a spare one for your close relative.
