| jghanisco's Full Review: SIIG SoundWave 128 PCI |
I owned a 16 bit isa sound card, and wanted to upgrade to a 32 bit card. I don't have a huge budget for computer items, and I saw this card at www.accompany.com for $24 with a $20 discount at the time (since expired). So I figured it was well worth the price. I also have the SIIG Soundwave Pro coming for my sister, so I'll have a review on that one too. But for this card...
Installation of the hardware was easy. The hardest part beginners will have is opening the case! Just find the pci slot and plug it in. Then plug in the cable from the cd-rom.
As for the software, windows 98 found this hardware, but as outlined by the direction booklet, you hit cancel on this, and install from the start menu. I had a problem with the set-up, as the screens kept writing over each other. I've had this problem with other games, so I'm assuming it's my computer. Other than this, set-up was a breeze, and the card installation was completed in 15 minutes.
This card is definitely better than my isa card, as I can surf and listen to realplayer better than before. But I don't think the sound quality is up to what I've heard from the MX3000 and Creative Labs models. But it is worth the $25 you can purchase it for now.
