I purchased these great speakers upon my arrival at college, my small laptop speakers just weren't cutting it for me. These are the best computer speakers I have heard thus far in any other dorm room I have been in. The speakers themselves are very small and space consuming, easy to fit on a crowded desk. But then you add to those the medium-sized sub-woofer which you can easily place under your desk, in a corner or on a shelf if you've got space to spare. The subwoofer, no matter how close or far away from the other 2 speakers, offer the greatest thump needed to enjoy all of your favorite songs. I can turn my speakers up half way and still hear them from four rooms down the hall, that is how powerful the sub-woofer is. And when I have guests in my room I usually play music through my computer as opposed to my stereo. These speakers are compatible with laptops, such as the one I've got, and with desk top computers as well. Anyone would have the benefit of crisp, clear music with an added sub-woofer bump to add a dance-hall theme to your room.
