How To Get More Hits - A True Capitalist's Guide

It has been my experience that everyone is quick to explain that they use Epinions first of all to help people, and secondly to make money. I don't know whether we have a bunch of altruists all using the site, or (more likely) people feel uncomfortable saying that they are using Epinions for the big cash rewards.

I have no such qualms. I like to write, and I like to get paid for my writing. That is why I use Epinions. If there were no rewards, I'd stop writing today. Call me selfish, call me greedy, but if you are reading this far, I bet you aren't just at this Epinions site for the love of the average consumer. If you don't care about the money or getting more hits, stop reading this now. If you want some tricks and tips to start getting lots more hits, let's begin:

1. Know what gets read. This is my fourth epinion on Epinions. Why? Because I have lots to say about it, and guess what? It is the most popular category of opinion that is read. All of my Epinions about Epinions have been my reviews with the most hits. In a larger sense, if you do some studying of the most popular Epinions, you'll see that they are almost ALL related to computers and specifically the Internet. Think about these things before you sit down to write -- if you want to review the latest art book you just read, by all means, do it. But if you are trying to decide from a multitude of things to review first, go for high hit categories, like Computers. It is possible to get many hits for little known categories and items, more on that later.

2. Agree, or disagree, instead of writing a new Epinion. When you agree or disagree with an Epinion, yours is the first the person sees when they reach the bottom. So before you write an Epinion, or if you see a really popular Epinion that you agree or disagree with, make sure to use this feature. Epinions put it there to be used, so don't be shy.

3. Rate other users and their Epinions. It's all about name recognition. I think enough of about this has been said in other similar Epinions.

4. Have some character. Upload a picture. Write a funny review. Fill out your profile. Leave a comment. You want to stand out in the minds of people so that they will remember you and want to read your reviews.</b>

5. Know the big boys (and girls). Do you know the most popular reviewers, the ones that get the most hits? I do. And knowing is invaluable. If one of them adds you to their web of trust, or references your Epinion, or praises you on the message board, it will do invaluable things to your traffic. Example: Kmennie put a link to one of my Epinions on her page (sadly, its gone now) and it got me huge traffic. Some of these people get more hits in a day than we do in a month, guys. Know them, befriend them, get traffic from them.

6. Finally, develop an online presence. This is kind of a swirling connection of all these tips. Your ultimate goal is to get your name and links out there as much as possible, become known, trusted and popular. THEN you can review things that no one has heard of and people will come directly from your page. Start out using these tips, and I wish you the best.

A final closing shot -- is this in the spirit of Epinions? How to get more hits, just focusing on the money? I think it is absolutely. The most important thing, which I did not mention, is to write good reviews. Otherwise all these tips are useless. But I do believe that Epinions is set up for people to make money (for themselves and the site at the same time). There's nothing wrong with being in it for that exact reason.
