| bobchezule's Full Review: Alienware Area51Pentium 3 Desktop Computers |
Have you ever been sitting at your computer, loading up a game or a website, and wondered why it was taking so long? I have, in fact I get that three or four hundred times a week. Well, if you are like me, then perhaps this machine is the answer for you. Alienware has built a name by marketing itself as the computer company for gamers. They build custom machines tailored to your exact needs as a computer gamer and then ship out your dream machine. What follows is an in depth review of their Area 51 machine.
Processor: I like the fact that in this machine the Intel 1Ghz is used, because in some of their machines they offer the Athlon, and I am not a big fan of AMD. You can of course downgrade to a slower processor and save yourself a great deal of money, but what's the fun in that. The 1Ghz processor is incredibly fast and will last several years before becoming obsolete, therefore making it worth the money. You also get an advanced cooling system so you can push your machine to the limits of gaming goodness.
Keyboard and Mouse: Normally I wouldn't mention these in a review, but in this case the keyboard happens to be green, adding a fun feel to the machine, and the mouse is the Microsoft Intellimouse, which for those of you who don't know, is an impressive mouse.
Hard drive: The standard hard drive is 40 gb, which should satisfy most normal gamers, but for those of you with an insatiable desire for storage space, you can upgrade to a 75 gig drive, but you can be sure it's gonna cost you.
Video Card: Here is where this machine excels above all others. Of course you're going to pay for it, but you can actually purchase with your machine the Geforce 2 GTS w/64 mb of DDR RAM. That is the best stuff on the market and that card is going to last for at least three years. Today's games aren't even coded for something that advanced, so you'll have to wait awhile to even push the card to its limits.
Speakers: The speakers are top of the line, as would be expected in a gaming machine. S4 Midiland 8200 5.1 Dolby Digital Speakers and Subwoofer. For those of you who don't speak the technical language of speakers, you get 5 speakers and a subwoofer so you can surround yourself with gaming goodness. Have fun with that.
Everything else: The sound card is a Soundblaster Live!, the best card on the market. A standard 56k modem is installed and a 1 year 24/7 onsite warranty is included.
Final Thoughts: For the gamer in all of us, this is the drool machine. It is ridiculously expensive, running somewhere above $3,200, but it sure is fun to own. I've got one, now you should go and get one.
