Most programs like this that I have tried have been very costly and hard to use. Melody Assistant is anything but. It offers a wide range of capabilities at an affordable price. This program allows you to input your music note by note if need be.

You can download a demo of the program that is almost fully functional. However, there are things missing and you will need to send away to France for a code. Fortunately this code is just $10, which is very low compared to the more common "Cakewalk" and others. This is a one time fee and the code can be used on numerous computers.

The program has an extensive database of sounds as well as an extended database on the site that you can download. If that isn't enough for you then you can even import your own sounds. When your finished with a song there are many output options, ranging from your basic midi to the very popular MP3 format. The website also has many other downloadable add-ons for no cost. The newest of which makes the computer sing the lyrics to your songs, though you can input your own voice if you know how to work with computers well. Aside from all the extras, the program itself is very user friendly for beginners and for the advanced users.

Another huge plus is that the tech support is wonderful. They take suggestions on things to add and help you to figure out just what their program is capable of. And, they don't make you wait 3 weeks for a reply. Every time I have sent an e-mail requesting information I have received a reply within 36hrs max. They also have constant upgrades because they are adding onto or fixing old problems.
