Juno is a very good free email system. I have loaded it on 4 different computers, all of them running various versions of Windows, and was always pleased with how it performed.
Yes, Juno is really free. No one time sign up fees, no access fee, nothing. Of course, this means that you have to look at their ads and offers, but this is a small price to pay for completely free email that works without having to have internet access.
Juno has a graphical interface like most programs now, which has great advantages over text only free emails. The supplied help files are pretty good, but not the best I have seen. The initial set-up takes a while, and sometimes Juno has problems finding the exact modem you are using. These problems seem to have lessened with newer systems. The basic Juno email deos not allow attachments, which can be a problem for people who really want to get into emailing others, and passing picture thru email.
Pros- Works well with Windows operating systems, from 3.1 up to Windows 98. Offline writing and reading ability, you don't have to stay connected to read and write email, so you don't tie up the phone line.
Cons - Even if you are running the version Juno supplies for Windows 3.1, some of the ads seem to assume that you are running on a fancy computer, and lock up the smaller systems. I recently had to write a script file to go thru my Mom's computer and clean out the ads periodicly.
Some times you have to wade thru 3 or 4 "special offers" before you can get to the screen to read or write email.
During initial set-up, you are asked many questions about your hobbies and lifestyle. This is so Juno can "customize" it's ads for you. It takes a while to get thru all this, but it is a one time only deal.
All in all, I feel that Juno is a very good program, and perfect for anyone who would like email, but doesn't have internet access.
