| OneforNone's Full Review: Abit BX6 |
When I was first going to buy a motherboard, it was a clear decision for me between either the Abit BX6 or the Asus(can't remember the model). I eliminated every other board because of the good reviews I had gotten for both the Asus and the Abit. I chose the Abit because it was friendly towards over clocking, and it had one of the highest possible expansion slots available! First of all, this motherboard has the AWARD bios, which is in my opinion much easier to use than API. Second of all, it has a utility that is integrated into the BIOS called the CPU Soft Menu 2. This utility is amazing from what I hear, yet I was not too satisfied with it. I tried to over clock my board and my system crashed(I have 2 case fans, and I only overclocked the board by 46Mhz.) , yet after a few boot-ups, the CPU soft Menu 2 fixed itself up, which was amazing. The board automatically reset the cpu speed to a lower speed which made my computer boot up perfectly. (Do not try overclocking unless you know what you are doing!!!) The board is supposed to be one of the fastest motherboards out there, and it was a little bit behind the ASUS. This motherboard also supports Pentium 3 CPUs to a certain limit, I think 600MHZ through BIOS updates. This board has 1 AGP slot that is capable of 2X, which is not the highest that some boards have currently, but AGP 4X boards were not available at the time I purchased this board. Besides that it has 4 PCI slots, and 3 ISA slots. This is adequate for almost any user, I mean I am a heavy computer enthusiasist, and I have practically everything installed in my computer. And after about a year and a half I was able to fill up all the slots. Overall, this board is very expandable, has many functions in the BIOS, and is very fast and cheap.
