A PDA for $149, the Palm m100 is small in price, light in weight (4.4 ounces) and small in size. (4.66 inches long x 3.12 inches in width x 0.72 inches thick.)
The screen is monochrome and is about 2 inches x 2 inches. It has the same pixel count as The Palm IIIe, which makes it slightly clearer when viewing. If you have a hard time seeing the other PDA's, then you won't like this one because of its smaller size, about 25% smaller in size.
The Palm m100 uses two AAA batteries and are suppose to last for two months, well I made it a month and had to get new ones. If you use one a lot, I suggest Ni-Cad batteries, be sure to have some extra ones on hand, so you will have a fresh charged set ready to put back in the Palm m100.
There are quick launch buttons for the, To Do List, Date Book, Address Book and the Note Pad.
Added Features
Palm offers different colored faceplates that snap on and off, now you can customize it the way you want.
There is an integrated clock built in.
They replaced the Memo Pad with Note Pad. Now you can draw and take notes right on the screen.
There is an MP3 player in the works for the Palm m100, when and if it comes out is anyone's guess.
There is a sync cable that attaches to a serial port on your computer, I like this over the sync cradle.
Software
It comes with Palm OS 3.5 and the following. Date Book, Address Book, Mail, To Do List, Memo Pad, Expense, Calculator, Security, Games.
HotSync technology for local and remote synchronization with your PC.
Drag and drop links to Microsoft Excel and Word.
Desktop import and export formats, CSV, TAB delimited and TXT.
Other software included are, Chapura PocketMirror, AvantGo (A Web Channel Manager)
Requirements
For the PC you need a 486 of higher with Windows 95, 98, 2000 and NT. (I was told Windows Me works.)
For the Macintosh Power PC running OS 7.5.3 or better.
Pros
1. Price under $150.
2. Simple and easy to use.
3. Note pad has been added.
4. You can customize the looks of it.
Cons
1. It is not upgradeable.
2. Only 2 megabytes of memory.
3. The display is a little small.
4. A lot of things that work with the III series won't work with the Palm m100.
Overall
It is hard to beat the price of $149 for a PDA. It is built well and will do the average user well but there are those who will probably want to go to a higher priced model.
The Palm m100 is great for keeping your addresses, appointments, note jotting and more. Go to a store and check out the different ones to see if this is the right PDA for you.
