Oh ye 10x baby! This CDRW totally blows the other CDRWs away. At 10x write, 4x re-write, and 32x multi-read it is THE fastest CDRW (non scsi) as of July 21, 2000. It has 4 mgs of buffer and it look stylish.
Why do you need a CDRW?

Were HAVE you been? The benefits of a CDRW are endless. If you don't have a CDRW yet then its time to wake up and join the rest of the computer world. For beginners you have mass storage, ability to back up your hard drive(s), and the ability to create custom Music CDs. Think about it, were else are you gona put the gigabites of MP3 you downloaded from Napster! Plus now you can actually convert the Mp3 and make your own custom Mix and listen to it in any cd player! Cdr media is at about 50 cents a disk for 650mgs - thats dirty cheap - don't believe me do the math it comes to less then a cent for a 10 mgs! Thats a hell-of-alot cheaper then Zip disks. Plus its fast and widly used.
The HP CD-Writer Plus 9300i Series:
If your gona get a CDRW then why not get the best one? Sure it costs a little more but still, just the satisfaction from laughting at your friends pathetic 8x CDRW is worth the few extra bucks. Besides look around some places offer sales to new products. I got my 9300i for only $218 (with tax and shipping). It was onsale at buy.com and I had a $30 off coupon.
Lets talk some Hardware;
Hardware wise this CDRW is THE best as of now. I haven't seen a single 10x (non scsi) besides this one. It burns a cd in about 5 - 35 minutes depending on the settings and the size of the disk. You can switch between the speeds such as 10x and 8x. I 'backed up' my old Unreal Turnament CD which is like 600 mgs in 7 minutes. It also depends on your other cd-rom. My other cd-rom has trouble reading cdr disk so i get a lot of errors and stuff. Then you have to do it the hard way and map it to the hard disk first which is a pain and takes a lot longer! The drive is really quite and easily installed which brings us to ...
Installation:
Installing this drive is so unbelievibly easy. All you do is pop in the installation cd and it installs all the software for you. Then you watch a movie that shows you step by step how to open up your computer and put in the hardware. As if that wasn't enough they include a big poster that shows the same process. Believe me anyone with half a brain could do this.
The Software Bundle:
From reading the other reviews I get the impression that the software is bad. However i can't find anything wrong with it. Most of it is pretty easy to use. With the software they give you all you have to do is pop is a blank cdr or cdrw disk and the program starts. You simply choose what you want to do and follow the on screen directions. I haven't pesonally had any problems with the software. I admit that some times it screws up and it gets confusing sometimes but I think its pretty good. Along with the CD burning software you get software to create CD lables, CD case cover, and corel print office. Although they don't come with much documentation i found it pretty straight forward to use.
The Extras:
You also get a CD labeling thing with it from NeatO. This is pretty helpful except the fact that they only give you a couple of Labels to use. Then you have to order from them.
So basically if you are in the market for a CDRW then get this one. It is the best period.
