| laserwizard's Full Review: MicroSolutions Backpack CDRW |
I am like others here that have quite a collection of Zip Disks and found using my Zip Drive to be an expensive backup system.
I shopped and shopped and researched CDRW systems but was getting discouraged that my older Pentium 150 wasn't going to be able to work with most of the internal CDRW's out there. I wasn't having much luck with external ones since most were USB's and I am using Windows 95.
Then I stumbled across this Back system. The more I looked, the better it appeared. I realized that the parallel port would limit the transfer rate on the data, but I wasn't trying to burn CD's based solely on speed...I had to find something external that was dependable and that was affordable and not USB.
I was lucky, I bought the drive from CompUSA for 249.00 and then there was a rebate of $20 or so on it. Then, a few days later, BestBuy had the same unit for 219.00 so I got CompUSA to match the deal and I got $30 back.
The unit has performed flawlessly. It copies cds in about 20 minutes or so and functions like a big zip drive for me...it allows files to be written to it. Most of the time I will download directly to my hard drive and then move the files from that day over to the CDRW by just dragging it from one location to another.
I found the setup to be a snap. I highly recommend this for someone who is price sensitive with similiar equipment limitations.
