I was a little skeptical when I heard about FastNet99. I had tried other programs that were supposed to speed up web pages, all of which simply cached the links on the current page. That's great if you're going to click on one of those links, but the way I surf it actually just slowed me down.
Well, I was glad to see that FastNet wasn't a caching program. Instead FastNet stores the ip address of sites that you specify (future versions are supposed to be able to retrieve urls that you enter into your browser) into a file that windows checks before performing a dns query. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I'll just say that instead of having to connect to possibly many different computers (very time consuming) to get the actual address for a website, your browser will check on your computer first and save all that searching time.
If you never visit the same sites, then this isn't very helpful. But we've all got those few sites that we visit on a regular basis, and it wouldn't hurt to be able to connect to those a little faster every time.
