| hhong's Full Review: HP Pavilion N3110 |
I just received this computer this morning and so far so good. This is my first laptop so I don't have anything to compare it to. It seems to work at least as well as my desktop computer, a home-made AMD K6II 300mhz. The best part of it is the deal I got. $995.95 out the door and it is not a refurb. It is a factory sealed original I got at outpost.com. If you know about outpost.com, you know they offer free dhl overnight delivery. If you order it before 12pm est, they deliver by the next day. Quickest gratification from any internet store I know. Most will wait at least a day before they even process you order for which you pay $50 or more for immediate service.
The $999.95 price includes sales tax. And if you go through ebates.com, you get a 5% rebate. That's an end cost of only $949.95 total. Plus, if 32 megs of ram isn't enough for you, you can get a 64 meg upgrade modual from crucial.com for only about $60, bringing your total ram to 96 megs.
As for the computer itself. I like the look of the unit. I think it's a very attractive laptop. I thought the toshiba's and the compaqs looked too chubby (thick).
I also prefer the celeron processor in the 3110. The newer model, the 3210 seems to be the exact same computer only with an AMD K6II processor. Also the hard drive is listed as being larger in the 3110. Okay, I think the video driver is different also. The 3110 has 2 megs external and the 3210 has 4 megs shared. And since the processors are different they have different front side bus speeds 66 mhz vs 100 mhz. I guess there's more of a difference than I thought. Oh well, I think the celeron configuration is better anyway.
In anycase, I don't think you'll find a better deal for a new (non-refurb) notebook made by a reputable, well known manufacturer. I came to epinions.com before making the plunge and this web site helped to confirm my decision. If you're looking for an entry level laptop, I highly recommend this model. (so far) If I have any problems with this machine, I'll be sure to post an update.
