| DharmaJairam's Full Review: Micron Millenia Max 533 |
I got this computer in Jan. of 2000. Overall, I have been very satisfied with the unit. I got a 533, with a 32 mg video card, SB live sound card, 13.6 gig HD, and a 21" monitor. I have had no hardware problems with it to date.
I decided to buy Micron because of the 133 mhz bus speed. I am not a fan of AMD and wanted to stick with Intel P3. I couldn't afford Rambus and saw the 133 bus as the next viable alternative.
Plus, although I bought also bought a Dell Laptop, I think that in regards to desktops, you get more bang for your buck with Micron compared to Dell or Gateway. I have had a terrible experience with a Gateway Desktop. Dont' believe their stupid slogan, because at Gateway, people DON'T Rule, they are considered SUCKERS.
Anyway, back to the Micron:
The case is a pretty nefty design and has plenty of room for expansion. I have already added a CD-RW (should have got it in the first place). Installation was a breeze anyway.
A great feature of this case is the "Tool-less entry". It is just that. There is a lever in the back and "voila" you have full access to the components.
The computer also ships with a two huge fans. I guess the more cooling the better.
You can also customize the computer to include any components you may want. I got a 32 mg video card, a great SB Live sound card, fast 7200 rpm hard drive, and a controller modem. I realize that Dell and Gateway do this too, but it's still a nice bonus.
The only problem I had with it was in regards to the speakers I bought with the system (Monsoon MC-200 $50). They sucked. The first pair blew, now the second pair blew. I am now on my third pair, but this time Micron tells me they are sending me a whole new make and model. That goes to so that Customer Service/ Tech support are pretty reliable and fast.
The multifunction keyboard is good. the mouse is ok. I got a 21" monitor from Micron as a $300 upgrade. That is amazingly cheap as they sell for about $1000 in any store!
