Visiting my mother for Thanksgiving I was bombarded with "look at this look at this" calls from her, she eventually showed me her SB Live Value. After listening to it for awhile, I said, "I gotta have it" So I went up to the store to purchase it. Then it hit me. BAMN! There is more than one Live soundcard. Whats this X-gamer, Mp3+, and Platinum? Whats the difference? I was about to dive into the differences, one digital, one optimized for mp3, and then I saw it. The All-in-one soundcard. The SB Live! Platinum.
This card carries an incredible 1024 voices! This means that your soundcard can play 1024 different sounds all at once. Thats alot of voices. With the use of Soundfonts, tm, you will get incredible sounding instruments when you play those old outdated midi files.
Packing a killer new technology called Environmental Surround Sound, the platinum can place a sound anywhere around you. A full 360 degrees. Sounds will wiz by you in air combat simulators, explosions surround you in your favorite shoot-em-up, birds off in the distance in your golf game, and women moaning in your... uhmm.. Great sound all round.
Another WONDERFUL feature of the Platinum is the midi interface. SB includes a front panel midi interface connector with sound adjustment. Meaning its a panel that sits below your cd-rom drive and you can plug stuff into it. Midi devices, keyboards, guitars, etc etc. It also has s/pdif input and output for all your digital devices.
Installation is a little more on the steeper side, because of the panel installation, but still even a novice can handle it. The manual walks you through installation step-by-step with directions that only a road pizza could mess up.
If you want the best there is, your cake, a knife, eat it too... get this card.
