I love to be creative and this device is just what I needed!
I recently celebrated my birthday and my younger brother gave this device to me as my gift. My brother knows that I loved to be creative and that I have been looking into the possibility of using my own art to create cards and gifts, etc.
I have been playing around with the tablet, learning how to use it and getting used to its many functions. I have enjoyed it very much for the past month or so and hope to be able to create some nice pieces of art eventually. So far, I just have one thing saved that I am using as a logo of sorts. I like to take my time and get to learn how things work.
I owned a Wacom tablet (with only the pen) with my old computer but did not get a lot of use out of it for various reasons. I am very excited to have this one now, knowing I have a real interest in using it to my advantage. I really have not used the cordless mouse that it came with yet. I find it to be too large for the space given on the tablet. I like how compact the tablet it, but not for the large mouse it comes with. You have to use the tablet as the mouse pad, since that is how it senses the device.
It seems reasonably easy to use, if you are willing to learn how and especially if you already know how to use the art programs that it can be used with. For people who are really into the graphic arts, this product will prove to be a great asset. For those of you who just like to dabble in art and love to be creative, this tool allows you to do just that! And it is fun to use!
The Wacom Graphire Pen and Mouse Set includes the tablet (surface), a pen (with functions on both ends) and a cordless, no-ball mouse. It also came with Painter Classic 1.0.2 to get started. The set can be used with any graphics program like this... such as Adobe Photoshop or Fractal Design.
Some of its great features include:
• a choice between using the pen mode or the mouse mode
• built-in eraser tip (just like a real pencil!)
• pressure sensitive pen tip
• paint and/or edit photos easily
• cordless, no-ball mouse (never needs cleaning) with a fingerwheel
• attachable pen stand
• DuoSwitch (on the pen) you can program for your keyboard shortcuts
• no batteries required
• Painter Classic 1.0.2 free with purchase
There is one drawback if you are using this on your Macintosh system... It was designed to run best on OS 8.X or better (it says), but the drivers for the tablet do not seem to be compatible with OS 9.0. The first thing I did was update the driver on www.wacom.com and then I updated my OS to 9.0.4 and it seems to be working just fine now. I have not used this on a Windows-based machine, myself, but have read that the drivers are not the greatest on that OS either.
