Okay, so based on these other opinions, generally everyone seems fairly happy with their Gateway. I thought I was too. I have had mine since the beginning of March, and what started out as a great system has slowly let me down. First of all, we were so impressed with the quality of service we got when making the initial purchase. The sales person was willing to match the price of the Dell system we were looking at, plus added some free software. This was impressive to us. However, when we first called we were simply inquiring on the price and were going to purchase a system with our tax return. The sales person proceeded to tell us of their financing plan at 12% interest. We decided to go that route and pay it off once we got the return. You can imagine our surprise when we got the finance agreement along with a Gateway CREDIT CARD with a 28% INTEREST RATE! I am not exagerating! I was furious! My husband left 10 messages with the sales person and the call was never returned. I am talking 10 messages in three days! It wasn't that we were going to be making those payments, but it was a bold faced lie! Well, needless to say, in that same week he kept trying to get ahold of the sales person, we received four different calls from other departments trying to sell us additional equipment such as digital cameras that we could simply add on our credit card! What BuLL!
Okay, as for the system itself (by the way, we never did get it resolved. My husband even sent e-mails to them), it is not nearly as fast and efficient as I would expect it to be. We did only get 64 meg of ram, but that seems like it should be plenty. I have had problems in the shut down process that freezes the system up and makes you turn it off manually. We have called their technical services department three times and they have been of no help. They have given us two fixes that did not work and then simply said, "take everything off and start over". We did this and it still happened. Also, we were so impressed by the 'Go Back' system which enables you to go back to a certain date and it reprograms your hard drive to what it was on that date. However, you can only go back one week on that, so it's not as helpful as it could be. If you messed up your system though, it would be very helpful to just go back to before you started.
All in all, I was not as impressed by Gateway as I thought I would be. I expected big time customer service from a company with so much competition. I owned a Quantex through my husbands company which just blew this Gateway out of the water!
