| heinzelman's Full Review: Altec Lansing ACS 33 Computer Speakers |
I have found that I work much better when I have tunes giving me inspiration. Since the majority of my day is spent on the computer, I listen to CDs, MP3s and some real audio during the day to the extent that I can stand the tinny, unrealistic sound of my speakers, which is dismal. I have long promised myself that I would get better speakers and this weekend found the Altec ACS33 Powercube on sale at Sam’s (of all places) for $30. I figured what the heck, for thirty bucks I can take a chance…
Equipment
The set comes with two satellite speakers and one medium sized subwoofer. The satellites are about the size a large coffee cup and the subwoofer is slightly larger than a loaf of bread.
Setup
The two satellites connect to the sound source from your computer and the subwoofer attached to the left satellite speaker and also requires a power source. That’s it! No drivers, no software, plug in and you’re ready to go.
Performance
Music/Audio
I installed the speakers over a weekend but did not try them until the weekday when I began to work. I started up the CD player and THUMP! I was amazed by the quality of the sound, the clarity and richness of the base, it just as good as my stereo. I have a pretty eclectic music collection from Limp Bizkit to Rusted Root and so far every unique sound has been faithfully reproduced through the speakers.
Games
I’m not a game fanatic but I have a few that I’ll play and the speakers significantly enhanced the experience. I have a few game that sound so good now that I am hearing ambient sounds that I had now idea were included in the program.
Final Analysis
Now I’m quite sure that there are more expensive speakers and better sound equipment for the computer, I am certainly not the apex of
For the price and my needs, these speakers are great. If you are looking for better sound from that generic speaks you have, don’t want to research the vast array of speakers available and don’t want spend a load: I recommend the Altec ACS33 Powercube Speakers.
