| Killa_T's Full Review: Emachines eTower 566irx |
I thought that if i didn't write this review then I wouldn't be able to sleep at night, so here it is.
The eTower 566irx could have been a decent machine, but it's about 3 years to late. I would never recommend this computer to anyone interested in buying a new computer. It's internal gadgets and gizmos are far to outdated, thus putting this bad boy out of the race.
Starting out with a 566Mhz Celeron processor, that I believe you may kick start with the lever on the back. The 64MB of RAM is what really kills me. The next time you are in a store that sells software take a good look on the back of the box and look at what it says for "required MB of RAM" I bet it is somewhere around 64MB. You are now saying ok so this computer has 64MB of RAM. This is all good and fine, but try to run today's computer on the bare minimum of what is required. I recommend double whatever required is at all times. The next item I wish to laugh at is the hard drive. Are you ready for this? the eTower 566irx comes with a "20GB hard drive" What I figure after your basic software installation (some word processing suite, winzip, IE, games, mp3's, pictures here, sound there, the list goes on and on) You will be down to about 200MB. Today the word is "internet." Say it with me I-N-T-E-R-N-E-T. When you are capable of downloading up to 100MB a day there is no way that a computer will last long with a 20MB hard drive. The last thing I have to say about this computer is the awful customer service. I honestly don't think they even have customer service. I called twice, once in the morning once in the evening, and never got an answer. Their webpage is not really any help either. I emailed customer service, three days later I get a reply. I was excited, thinking that I might be getting an answer as to why my computer locked up if left on for more than 24 hours. Much to my dismay I found that the reply to my email was just a "we have recieved your email and will be contacting you within days with a response to our valued customer" Guess what? I never recieved that response. I guess i'm not a valued customer.
I can't complain about this computer non-stop though. I do have to give it "props" for it's CD-RW, DVD combo it has in it. I love it. If all you want to do is watch DVD's and burn CD's maybe this is the computer for you! If not, throw your research somewhere else because this is not your place.
