For DV enthusiats - right on the money

Pros:Inexpensive professional quality.
Cons:Quirky USB connectors

I got the G4 base system for a video project, just when it came out. With Apples Final Cut Pro software, this was truly a plug and play affair. I did have to sort out some system extensions for my foreign-language operating system (Mac 9.0.4) and the English extensions provided by the editing software, but once this was done all I had to do was plug in my DV camera and start editing.

Another thing I like about the base system is the built-in modem. Apple's system software makes it easy to get on the internet, and the Sherlock search features works wonders when you're trying to find an esoteric word or phrase on the net. The tight integration with graphics programs makes it simple to produce finished videos of professional caliber - I edit for broadcast on big systems at a major broadcaster, but with the G4 base system at home, with an extra internal ATA hardisk and some extra memory - 192 MB total, provides an inexpensive and fully functional alternative to late nights at the office. The results are indistinguishable from what I would get on systems costing thousands of dollars more.

To start I had a bit of trouble with the USB keyboard. It seems like the connector was a bit loose. But Apple issued a firmware update, which unexpectedly cleared up the problem.
