Creative labs is a trusted brand with affordable products. The DXr3 board that comes with the dvd player is great. There is no comparison between the quality of the board vs. decoder software. If you can find the 5x with the dxr3 board for about 120-130 pull the trigger and get it. The picture that I get using this five speed dvd player far surpasses my expectations. It rivals the dvd player hooked up to my tv(mostly due to high resolution of my monitor) The options for the pc dvd are exceptional. You are able to easily hook up digital surround sound through your sound card, and also the player can produce to your tv as well as monitor(though not at the same time) A fantastic companion for the dvd player is Creative's sound blaster live card, it has digital sound capabilities and is fully compatible. I have yet to find a movie that didn't play in my pcdvd. With software and games starting to go towards dvd format I think that a dvd player is a sound investment for all of your computer needs, not just for watching movies.
