| gsmith3805's Full Review: NEC Ready Notebook 340LT |
The plastic case easily cracks & breaks making an otherwise good machine not usable as a portable unit. So what's the use? Don't think of getting it repaired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As far as using its a great machine, touch pad can be a bit too sensitive. The drives are not hot swappable and this becomes a headache because if the floppy is already in the notebook and you want to save a file to a diskette you have to shut everything down, switch drives and boot up.
The OS WIN 98 has some issues, especially the disk scan doesn't work correctly.
This unit works good surfing the internet (using touchpad), however the modem (picmica card) presents problems with the proprietary modem cords which are prone to damage. Plan on spending $20-$50 and spend 2 months looking for it.
Support provided by NEC is an insult. If I had a hint of how nasty & insulting they would be, I would never buy this product.
Overall its good spec wise, terrible in physical construction and non existent support. Buy a Thinkpad & sleep at night!
