There are Alternatives

About two months ago I purchased a Gateway Performance 550 computer with the Pentium III Xeon Processor in it. I got the computer completely decked out, the best video card, DVD drive, 256 megs of RAM, CDRW-Drive, and the best sound card available at the time. Despite this my computer has seriously broken down twice since the date of purchase. The first time it broke down was because the SCI controller on my hard drive went bad. The second time it broke down was because the computer suddenly stopped recognizing my video and sound card. Both of these also turned out to have defects in them. These two repairs resulted in my computer being gone for about a month and a half. That means that since I bought the computer it has only been operational for about two weeks. As for tech support, it is some of the worst I have ever dealt with. Be prepared to stay on hold forever just to get through to one place and have them refer you to another different place. After paying $5,000 dollars for a computer system through Gateway I expected a little more support. I am still currently arguing with Gateway for the reimbursement of the shipping, which I paid to have the computer sent off for repairs. I will never buy anything from Gateway again and I hope my opinion will sway others away from Gateway as well. Instead of buying from Gateway I would suggest Dell or possibly Hewlett Packard. I have owned both Dell and Hewlett Packard computers in the past and found them to be very dependable.
