I purchased this drive by accident. I was bidding on a similar Creative IDE CD RW drive on Ebay and when I won the auction, the seller, a computer store in North Carolina was out of stock. They substituted this drive, new and in factory sealed box.
If you like burning CDs, either copying CDs you already own or burning music downloaded from the internet, this drive is more than adequate. Though faster drives are available, the price is right on this model.
The drive comes with an IDE cable, mounting instructions, mounting hardware and a slew of software with which to make labels and jewel case inserts, make audio and data CDs and a pretty cool DJ mixing program.
If you've got a spare IDE port on your motherboard, this drive will work very well. I do not however and made it a slave to my CD ROM drive. This works, but if you're copying from one CD to another, there's only so much data you can force down one cable and you may encounter problems. This is eliminated completely by buffering through your hard disk. In layman's terms, copy your CD to the hard disk and burn it from there. This will give trouble free recording. I've been told that switching the burner to be a slave to my hard disk rather than my CD ROM, will solve this problem.
The drive makes saving large amounts of data impractical for floppies easy and fluid but for system backup, you'd be better off with a different storage media.
Easy to install, easy to use, practical and fun - that's what the Spressa is. Make CDs, Copy CDs, even create complex CD ROMs. Save your pictures and movies. It's a great drive.
