Having used IBM, Toshiba, and Evesham branded laptops, my latest purchase was made with quality at the forefront of my mind.
Toshiba certainly know how to make laptops, from the business style appearance to the huge screen with clarity unmatched by any other. Even the keyboard has a comforting feel.
I no longer use my desktop, and develop multimedia applications, heavy on graphics and memory, all on my Toshiba.
I have to admit that I have topped up the RAM by 256MB to 320MB as the 64MB it originally came with is simply not enough for the way I use my machine. It really is easy to do. If you are using MS Office packages, surfing the web and even playing a few games, 64MB would be enough for a while.
One thing that strikes me about the laptop is the battery. It really lasts and lasts and lasts. If a manufacturer says 2hrs, its going to be 1 1/2 hours, but with Toshiba, and the speedstep technology, 3 hours is three hours.
Not had cause to use the DVD drive for movies, but it handles CD fine. In built modem seems ok too. The huge vent to expel the hot air is very easy to block up if you use it on your lap, and the huge fan keeps kicking in and letting you know its hot in there?
I have used pcmcia network cards in the slots at both 10 & 100 speeds without problem.
All in all, you get what you pay for and if you want reliability, usefulness and a high re-sale value, its Toshiba all the way.
Oh, and I bought another one too - so it must be good.
