| Picky_gurl's Full Review: Dell Dimension 4100 Series |
Recently, I was looking for a computer to surf the internet and for my son to work on educational purposes. I am so clueless when it comes to buying a computer, but I decided to look into Dell because at my two work places, we have Dells everywhere. So I figured it must be good, but that didn't stop me from making my research.
After comparing prices/my wants with other namebrands and after reading opinions on Epinions.com, I decided that the Dell 4100 was the best choice. It was within my price range and it had everything I wanted. Plus, they had a nice promotion.
ORDER
I ordered my Dell 4100 online at www.dell.com on Tuesday, December 12, 2000 and received part of it on Friday, December 15, 2000. I expected to receive everything that day, but I didn't. I didn't received my speakers and my promo: Lexmark inkjet printer. Now, don't panic if that happens. I guess that's just the way it is. What I did was call Dell customer service and told them about the situation and they were very helpful. Note that you may be on hold for 15-20 minutes, but it's worth it. They told me the dates of when my speakers and printer will arrive which led me to believe that that's how it is. They were right! I received my speakers the following Monday and my printer on Wednesday.
If you decide to buy your computer online, you can either choose what they already have or you can customize it. I figured out that if you start with the lowest and then customize it, you can save at least $10. I want to encourage you to play with the customizing tools a little bit. Also, be patient. Dell have great promotions going on, but it can vary each week. To get the best deal, you'll have to wait because one week they'll have a free printer and the next week they'll have a free printer plus free shipping. Note that they will raise the computer cost if there's free shipping or other promotions with the scanner, printer, or intel pocket pc camera, but you'll still save at least $50-$70 in the total order.

TURNING IT ON
I expected to hear a loud fan---of course after reading about experiences from epinions. Well, I am glad to say that it is as quiet as a mouse!
After testing my computer, everything seems to be working fine. I was also surprised at how fast I could connect to the internet. Wow! It was way faster than I had expected.
