| JoeCool449's Full Review: IBM PC Camera Webcam |
This is a quick and snappy review of the IBM PC Camera. I have included only important details. If you would like me to elaborate on anything, just make a comment about it below, and I will try to answer your question. When I received this little camera about 6 months ago, I had no idea how good it was going to be. But now, I know. I has excellent resolution, great picture quality, lots of options, and many uses. It has a few downsides, but more pros than cons.
I will start off with the good things. The camera is easy to set up. Simply plug in, install software, and you're good to go! The provided software is easy to use, and lets you start recording video in no time. The sound is crisp, and as mentioned above, resolution is sharp, but adjustable. (You can sacrifice frame rate for higher resolution) You can also take still pictures with it, so it doubles as a digital camera. You can easily remove it from its base if you want to move it around more, and putting it back on is a snap. It automatically adjusts itself in areas with too much light or too little light. It is well focused and very sharp. There is also teleconferencing, but I will talk about that feature below.
However, as I mentioned before, there are some downsides. Mainly the price. They are a little expensive. (about $200) Another thing is that I have not been able to get the teleconferencing feature to work. It is extremely confusing, and the instructions do little to help. For those of you that are going to buy this camera for that feature, look elsewhere or be prepared to get frustrated. Another thing is that it is not a good camera for people who are looking to mainly take still digital images. Since in must be plugged into your computer at all times, you can only take pictures as far as it can reach. If you are going to use it with a laptop, this may not be a problem. But for those who have a large desktop, taking pictures near your computer is as far as it will go.
All in all, its a great little camera. My advice is to buy it.
