Once again, Logitech provides adequate mousing

Written: May 16 '00
Pros:It's a mouse. Scroll wheel. Smooth styling
Cons:Kind of small. Encourages unhealthy thumb movement.

In search of an external mouse to hook to a borrow laptop (the touchpad
was just killing my wrist and thumb), I picked up one of these for $25,
or something like that, at one of the big electronics chains. It worked
flawlessly on the install (this was under Windoze) but took rather more
work to get the scroll wheel working under Linux. After that, I was all
set.

The mouse itself is a bit small in my hands (I have long fingers) which
seems to cause me to cup the mouse in the fingers and not the palm; I'm
told this is the preferred grip for many people, but it causes pain for
me eventually, because I end up performing the small mouse motions that
you need to hit buttons and the like by flexing my thumb and fingers --
a definite no-no if you're going to be doing it all day. But for people
with small hands, this may be a non-issue (or they may jump up and down
and cry, "At last! A mouse for me!").

The software shipped with the mouse was ok; it allowed reprogramming of
the buttons to left- and right- handed, and Logitech's features for the
various buttons (click-lock, or whatever), which I never use. Nowadays,
I sort of expect that kind of customizability.

All in all, for an inexpensive mouse, you get a decent product. Nothing
too exciting.
