Online forms are a menace. All too often a company wants to know everything about me before they let me download their program. When I see a form, my first thought is: "Is there a way around it ? Perhaps I can get away with hitting Submit without filling any of the fields ? Or maybe I can jump straight to that company's anonymous FTP site ?". Sometimes those sneaky ways got me in. More often, though I had to grit my teeth and enter all the info I was asked for.
That, is until I've discovered Gator.
This little gem is simple, like everything that's brilliant. It stores your information in file and when web browser pops up a form, Gator winks at me and asks: "Hey, friend, want me to fill that for you ?". I click OK and presto - a lot of the tedious work has been done automatically!
Another useful feature of Gator is it's ability to remember usernames and passwords. I have tons of those: for affiliate programs, services that require subscription, etc, etc. To be frank, for 90% of these passwords, I don't care that much about their security. So, I suspended my paranoia and allowed Gator to keep track of those. Once again, it saved me time and mechanical typing.
Are there any downsides to Gator ? Well, a couple of minor points come to mind:
1) When the same site has different login screens, Gator can't tell them apart very well. In fact, the other day, I was using it on our development server at work and managed to lock myself out of the system, because Gator was trying to use login from another page and I realized that too late.
2) It would be useful if Gator could store more fields - occupation or income are couple that come to mind.
Overall, it's one of the few programs that I can't live without - I recommend it wholeheartedly!
