HP - The FORD of computers.
Mar 08 '00
HP makes some of the best printers and copy machines you can buy, but their expertise stops there.
As an independent computer repair professional I spend more time working out the bugs in ever make and model of HP computer on the market, some even fresh from the shelf. If you're looking to save some money buying a low-cost HP machine, look also to spend more than the difference in both tech service and in time spent with their famous support system.
HP computers are hit and miss. Once in a while a customer gets a good one that does not give them a days trouble, but more often than not they spend countless dollars and hours just trying to keep the thing running for more than a day or two.
I have repaired every model of HP machine you can get. Every one of them was made from sub-standard parts, often not even matching what the label on the face-plate said was supposed to be in it (trying to give Gateway a rival?!?).
If you are so fortunate as to get one of the odd good ones that comes off of their assembly line, keep it. It will run forever. If you are not so fortunate I recommend using it as a boat anchor and getting a real computer.
