I have been trying to find a computer at a cheap price so that I could get back online without having to pay $12/hr at Kinkos. When my husband and I separated he took the Gateway computer that we both had been paying on. So, I was left to do my internet surfing and profit making by renting a computer at Kinkos. That was terrible. The people at Kinkos are extremely friendly but $12/hr!
So, I started shopping around. I went to Office Depot, Office Max, and any other place I could think of. I even went to the Gateway website. But, I could not find a computer that I could buy (my husband has left me in a bad credit state). I went to Circuit City as a desperation attempt. I was declined a Circuit City credit card but I was informed about a promotional discount offered by CompuServe.
The promotional discount was $400 off anything in the Circuit City store if you sign a three year contract with Compuserve. I jumped on that offer and started shopping for a new computer. There was too many to choose from and all of them were too expensive. Then, the salesman suggested the ETOWER/566i2 because it was being discontinued because the new 600MHz model was already out.
I checked the ETOWER out. Not bad, slow compared to the 700MHz and 1000MHz machines I considered before but hey I don't really need anything that fast. I was used to the 533MHz Gateway, anyway. The price was great for me ($374). The ETOWER had a $75 rebate on it to. Great!
I just got a $200 credit limit credit card from Capital One. So, I jumped on the chance to buy the ETOWER. I could not refuse the computer for the price I was about to pay.
The total cost of the computer and monitor was $556.47 - $400 discount from Compuserve - $75 rebate from EMACHINES - $50 rebate on the 17" monitor = $31.47. $156.47 was charged on my credit card which isn't bad considering the rebates. With all the rebates, I paid $31.47 for a computer system! Great! I would have been a fool to turn that down.
The ETOWER 566i2 has been running fine. I haven't had any trouble out of it and websites load fast enough for me (it came with a 56k modem). Not to mention I love the version of Windows that it came with (Windows ME) and not to mention other software that it came with.
This computer will have many years of use until I upgrade or buy another one. Until now, everything is GREAT!
