Sensory Science Rav3

Written: Feb 16 '00
Pros:Good value at $50
Cons:Requires CMOS setup on computer

After taking advantage of a free $250 Rav3 after purchase of $50 worth of music from www.eMusic.com, my first impression was that $50 was all it was worth for the poor sound quality. But then, I removed the little "bud" earphones and plugged in a quality set of headphones. At $50, Wow! At $250, find a better unit!

This little device runs on a single AA battery, holds an amazing amount of music, and can sound awesome with the right headphones. Undoubtedly there are better quality MP3 players on the market, but the $50 deal from eMusic is worth going after.

To load the memory, you have to change the setup of your parallel printer port to a bi-directional mode. This did not cause any problems with my printer, thankfully, but it does require changing the computers CMOS settings. Not difficult to do, but might be an adventure for non-computer types.

The device has some additional capability (voice recording, memos or phone number storage, etc.), but it doesn't seem very useful for those tasks. I still haven't figured out how to record voice, but then again I bought it as an MP3 player...

The details of the offer at eMusic indicate a limited amount of players available, but (I asked) as long as they are still running the banner advertising the promotion, it is still valid. Go fo it.
