Cons:How to configure an Acer Laptop to the LAN

My name is Lasantha Wikramanayake and as a part time job I sell computers, accessories and do little bit of networking. One of my client has bought an Acer TravelMate 310, and he asked me to configure and connect it to their local Area Network (LAN).

To be honest that was the first time I got hold of an Acer Laptop, apart from that he asked me to configure and connect it to their LAN too.

Normally these are the steps I believed that a person whose using a Laptop for the first time should follow. Read the Guide book carefully which comes along with it. Then according to the guide book or the Manuals power up the Lap, but before that you got to check whether you plugged in everything correctly. So I followed these little steps and installed it correctly.

The special feature about this Travelmate 310 is that it has the touch pad for the mouse, and believe it or not it's the easiest way to control your mouse pointer. Maybe you'll feel little bit odd but once you got your fingers going smoothly it'll be a piece of cake.

Then came the tough part, connecting to the LAN. It had 2 PCMCIA slots and one had a Modem already. The first thing you got to do is to unlock the slot and push the PCMCIA Network card in and make sure that the Arrow stands up facing upwards(Keypads). Then it'll ask for the driver, insert the driver diskette which came along with the PCMCIA Card. There it ends the hardware section. Then you got to get the IP Address or the Host Name but these things the network engineer will do.

Anyway If you're beginner and even the very first time you'll be able to configure and connect to your self to the LAN or the WAN in no time if you just read everything carefully. I my case I new little bit of networking and it helped me to obtain an IP address but other than that I got to know the hardware part by self. So If you have any questions about this Acer Travel Mate 310 don't hesitate to email me
