| pippadaisy's Full Review: Cirque Smart Cat Touchpad |
I've had a Cirque for over four years now, and if you want to skip the whole review, I can tell you GO BUY ONE!
That said, I originally got my Cirque Smart Cat because of problems with RSI (repetitive stress injury) at work. They were kind enough to go and buy me one, and I've been in love ever since.
I know that a lot of you are looking at this touchpad mouse with skepticism. Some of you may even have a touchpad going unused and unwanted on your keyboard or laptop. But the Cirque Smart Cat can convert you. I swear.
The concept of a touchpad, for the uninitiated, is that instead of having to jerk your hand and wrist all over your desk, you use a finger -- any finger -- to sort of draw lines on the pad. The mouse pointer follows your finger motions, much the same as a mouse trackball works. Then you have choices for clicking: you can either press a button to click or double-click, or you can tap your finger on the touchpad.
It takes a little bit of practice to get quick and accurate, but once you have it, away you go. And it's a lot less stressful on your wrists than the old-fashioned mouse.
Here's what I love about my Cirque Smart Cat:
* four buttons (yes, four) that you can program to your liking. The most your old mouse has there is three, am I right?
* sturdy and well-constructed. Mine has been through baggage handling, dropped, rolled over by my desk chair, and four years later, it's only got one little nick in the touchpad. Still works great
* the Smart Cat, unlike some other touchpads, has a right-click area. If you look again at the product picture, there is a lighter gray area in the upper right hand corner that is actually a right-click area. Makes those right-click mouse commands a breeze.
* nice, long cable. My PC has a full-tower case, which sits on the right side of my desk. The Smart Cat has a long enough cable that it isn't stretched tight across to the left side of my keyboard. Plenty of play left in the cable.
* it makes my poor, battered wrist feel better.
* There is a sound feature that you can use when you are training yourself to use the touchpad. It was a great help to get me up and running.
The only, and I do mean only, gripe I have about this item is the price. I wish it were less expensive, because then maybe more people would get one. But even at it's street price, I think it's worth every penny. And as a leftie mouser, I can vouch for the fact that it works really well for lefties as well as righties.
