I used the others (Outlook Express, Eudora, Outlook 2000), but ever since I used this small, but highly configurable and powerful email client, I have never turned back.
Your Modem will be Thanking You
The Bat! comes in at less than 2mb. That's much less than the other clients whose download size can be 10mb or more. If you thinking that a small download size means little features, think again. The authors have chosen to make this client efficient.
What about my Mail?
The Bat! comes with an import wizard so you don't have to worry about losing your important email. Importing is a breeze with The Bat!
Features
- Templates: Each account and each folder offers templates. Templates allow you to customize the Reply or Forward messages. It doesn't stop there though. When creating your template, you are given a dozens of macros that can be inserted into your template automatically. Macros such as the time received or reply-to author, make creating templates easy.
- Filtering: One of the most powerful features of The Bat! The advanced filtering of this client allows you to filter Incoming, Outgoing, and Read mail. When you set up a filter you can choose numerous actions, such as moving to a folder, replying to the author, etc. After viewing the power of filters, I now use them to filter most of my incoming mail into separate folders so I don't have to waste time searching and moving my mail.
- PGP Support: PGP support is built-in to The Bat! This allows you to encrypt, decrypt and read your mail. You can choose to use internal PGP or you can use the industry-standard PGP. Support is available for 5.x and 6.x versions of PGP.
The Bat! includes many more features for managing email more completely. To view the features go to http://www.ritlabs.com/the_bat/features.html. After using The Bat! for several months, I find more and more features everyday that make this program my top choice for email clients. Please note, that The Bat! is really designed for the advanced user. Novices may use the program, but may find the complex number of options confusing.
