| lanmanpat's Full Review: Toshiba Portege 7020 |
We have used the 7020 exclusively at work for about a year. While our users love the size/performance ratio of the Portege, it has become a tech support nightmare. Let's face it... getting good performance out of a laptop is relatively easy. The hard part is making it small and durable. Unfortunately, Toshiba fails on the durability aspect.
Our biggest complaint from users is that the docking station does not securely hold the laptop in place. When you are typing, it will frequently become detached from the docking station. This results in a keyboard that bounces as you type or worse, a system lock up.
Another poor design in the 7020 is the modem flap. To access the modem, you flip out a small door at a 45 degree angle. This flap is very fragile and our users have damaged at least a half dozen laptops this way. Most of this was due to tripping over the phone cord... which shouldn't happen, but it always does.
These two design flaws seem to be corrected in the 71xx series. If you have the option, I would definitely recommend opting for a 71xx over the 7020!
