VeloCD: The Good, Bad, Ugly
Written: Oct 26 '00
Pros:fast! easy! no coasters can theoretically be made
Cons:more expensive than the plextor 12/10/32
Let me start off by saying that there is no ugly side to this device. I have two burners. The TDK velocd and the Plextor 12/10/32 CDWriter are on par despite what some people say. Apparently the Plextor writer is suppose to be the BEST burner though I couldn't really tell the difference between the two as far as performance was concerned. One noticeable difference is the software that comes with the two burners.
The TDK velocd comes with Nero Burning ROM which is, in my opinion, MUCH better than the more popular Adaptec CDCreator.
The TDK, like the Plextor, features BURNproof technology which ultimately prohibits any buffer underruns. This effectively means that the software will make sure that no coasters can be made to loss of the writing stream. No coasters! Awesome!
The conclusion:
I had to buy this burner from CompUSA (which I hate) for $324.00. VERY expensive and I wouldn't have done so if it weren't for having to burn music CDs for my brothers marriage. But upon installing it, loved every minute of the fast burning experience. This burner rocks though it has a particular higher price than the more favored Plextor 12/10/32
